Abrar Ul Haq – A dose of patriotism!
While all other ‘protest’ musicians make it a point to include motivational lyrics to their songs and pin point exactly what is wrong in Pakistan, Abrar Ul Haq goes a step further and comes out with a solution to all our problems. It seems a genetic mutation is what we need to change the future of our country, according to Haq’s latest video release titled ‘Ki Karan Daye O’.
This is a motivational message, a public service announcement and an advertisement for the singers NGO all in one. The ‘Billo’ boy seems to have matured and is asking his fellow countrymen to let go of the ‘talk all night’ culture too. ‘Ki Karan Daye O’ is another one of the wave of ‘protest music’ that has been taking the nation by storm. From Shehzad Roy’s ‘Uth Baandh Kamar’ and Soch – the band’s ‘Uth Jawana’ to The Beghairat Brigade’s ‘Aalu Anday’ and Laal’s ‘Dehshatgardi Murdabad’, we have been hearing more and more of message oriented music that is getting impactful by the day.
Abrar Ul Haq’s track, however, takes a lighter approach towards the cause as the singer tries his best to awaken the youth without being too solemn about it. The song also features Shahzaman who became famous for his track ‘Layla’ a few years ago. ‘Ki Karain Daye O’ starts off with the classic Abrar ul haq one lined humor, it also has the infectious ‘preeto’ laugh though a bit more subtle than the former. The only difference is that this number shifts focus from being humorous to one having a serious message wrapped up in between. The singer who has been known for tracks like ‘Preeto’ and ‘Billo’ is finally telling his listeners to look away from love and start paying attention to more serious matters like bringing the country back on track.
The video starts off with the singer dressed as a (mad?) scientist. With the help of his striking lab partners he conjures up a green coloured formula containing hefty amounts of patriotism and tolerance to be injected in all Pakistanis. Haq goes around giving young men and women shots without them knowing about it and manages to create an army of honest patriots who then work together to create a better Pakistan! The singer does manage to sneak in images of his trust buildings and ambulances – after all, a little marketing should do no harm!
‘Ki Karan Daye O’ was intended to be a fun number with a message; good intentions apart, it does not have the same appeal as some other ones like ‘Aalu Anday’ or even ‘Bum Phatta’ by Ali Azmat did.
